2 Ways To Sell Gold

If you have a bunch of gold or broken gold jewelry, you may want to get rid of it. Doing that will let you have more room for new jewelry that you like better and some money to buy the jewelry with. If you are going to sell the jewelry, there are various ways you can do it.

Local Jeweler

One thing that you can do is to go to a jeweler in your area and see if they buy gold. You will probably have better luck if you go to an independent jeweler or locally owned store and not to a larger chain store. The jeweler will be able to buy the gold from you, and then they can melt it down to create new pieces. It can be easier for them to source some gold this way than to source it other ways. Before you go in to see the jeweler, check to see what the current price per ounce of gold is. You probably won't get that full price from the jeweler because they will assume the work and the issue of storage, but it will give you a place to start negotiating. You also should know how pure the pieces you want to sell are, as well as how heavy everything is. The heavier and purer everything is, the more you are likely to get from the sale.

Dedicated Gold Buyers

There are people and companies whose primary goal is to buy up gold. They aren't going to make jewelry out of it, although they may melt the gold down and sell it off to be made into jewelry. They buy gold from you. You may be able to find one of these buyers in your area if you live in a large town, or you may have to go online to see if you can find one. You might check to see if you can find someone who purchases precious metals if you can't find someone who just buys gold; it may be easier for you to find a buyer who is somewhat diversified in that way.

If you are looking to get rid of some gold jewelry, you might want to see if you can sell it for its gold content because that can get you some money that you can use for a variety of things, including buying new jewelry, if that's what you want to do.
